The validation Study Design for the Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery (FRS) validation study was agreed upon by clinicians, psychologists, researchers and psychometricians at a consensus conference. The validation study was designed to meet the most rigorous evaluation that would satisfy criteria for high stakes testing and evaluation. The study will be evaluating all components of the curriculum including: cognitive components; psychomotor skills, and team-based training and communication.
According to Dr. Roger Smith, one of the Principle Investigators of FRS, “the study design was broken down into 5 phases. We are excited to host the first phase, or pilot study, at Florida Hospital Nicholson Center to establish logistics and refine the training model. The final phase of the study that will determine predictive validity will be conducted at 10 separate research sites, which are all American College of Surgery Accredited Educational Institutes.”
